Texas E-Verify for State Contractors Now Required

On December 3, 2014, outgoing Gov. Rick Perry issued an executive order requiring all state agencies and contractors to use E-Verify to determine the legal status of employees.

While numerous bills requiring E-Verify for private employers have been considered by committees of the Texas State Legislature, none have made it through the process to enactment. Until the Governor’s order, E-Verify had remained voluntary for Texas employers.
